Advancing Quality Early Childhood Education Across Colorado
Every day, families across Colorado wrestle with challenging decisions about their children's earliest care and education: Who will take care of my child? How will I know he is safe? How much will it cost? How will I know he is being loved and nurtured?
Qualistar Colorado was established to answer these questions by providing parents with the information necessary to better select child care and preschool and to improve the quality of care available in Colorado. With a statewide network of 17 Child Care Resource and Referral Partners, the non-profit organization offers information to parents, improves quality in child care and preschool programs, and conducts the Qualistar Rating™. The Qualistar Rating™ is Colorado's Quality Rating System (QRS) and measures the quality of child care programs in Colorado on a provisional to 4-Star scale.
Qualistar is the result of an innovative merger in 2004 of two of Colorado's non-profit leaders in early childhood education - Educare Colorado and Colorado Office of Resource and Referral Agencies (CORRA). Educare Colorado, which was formed in 1997 when a coalition of business, philanthropic, political, religious and community leaders united to create a rating system that measures the quality of child care and preschool programs, has revolutionized the way families assess and select their children's earliest care and education. CORRA, which was created in 1991, helped thousands of Colorado families select child care and enabled countless early care and education programs to improve quality through the administration of coaching and technical assistance.
