Qualistar Colorado advances quality, access and equity in early care and education so that all children are valued, healthy and thriving.
Ninety percent of brain development occurs before a child’s first day of kindergarten. Children aren’t just learning their numbers and letters. They are developing the tools – emotional and behavioral management, fine and gross motor skills, and resilience – they need to handle whatever life throws their way.
As the voice for quality early care and education in Colorado for 15 years, Qualistar’s programs train and support professionals, our data and research inform policy and practice, and our leadership in the field sets us apart.
We Empower Educators
Professional Practice: Following the Colorado Competencies for Early Childhood Educators and Administrators, we create and offer trainings that prepare teachers to provide exceptional learning opportunities to children.
Our trainings are designed to meet the State of Colorado’s professional development requirements. We use data from our assessments of early care and education classrooms to identify where gaps in quality exist in order to develop trainings to fill those gaps.
Many young children spend most of their day in an early care and education setting, so it is essential that these environments are safe. In addition to ongoing health training for professionals, Qualistar organizes, supports and trains child care health consultants – the medical professionals who advise teachers.
Professionalizing the Field: Children need great teachers who understand child development. Qualistar’s T.E.A.C.H. Early Childhood® program provides college scholarships and academic counseling to qualified teachers and pays for up to 90 percent of tuition and fees. Without scholarships, teachers – who earn an average of $24,000 per year – would almost certainly not be able to afford college.
We Support Programs
Assessments: Families and teachers know that there is more than one component of quality. That’s why Qualistar conducts a variety of assessments. Qualistar’s team of quality rating specialists evaluate and provide recommendations on business practices, language development through teacher-child interactions, curriculum development and learning outside the classroom.
Capital Improvement Grants: Research shows a correlation between children’s success and their learning environment – the classroom, school building or playground where learning takes place. The Qualistar Colorado Capital Fund provides grants to nonprofit early care and education businesses for projects such as playgrounds, new flooring, sink installation and other capital improvements to improve quality and increase access.
